Air Travel Restarts at Edinburgh Airport Following Major Air Traffic Control Outage
Air travel have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport following a substantial air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.
Every arrival and departure were stopped because of an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.
A number of travelers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.
Operations Restart with Residual Impact
Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".
Nonetheless, significant disruption are expected to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.
Officials had previously estimated that dozens of flights could be impacted.
"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the current status on their specific flights," the statement added.
Root of the Disruption
Officials linked the widespread suspension to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.
Flyers are still being urged to check the status of their flight before heading to the hub as residual delays are cleared.
