Following multiple episodes of suspense, schemes and backstabbing, Celebrity Traitors has reached a thrilling end
Spoiler alert - This article reveals details from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, viewers witnessed eliminations, double-crosses, serious side-eye, and a memorable moment that pierced all tension.
However on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the first celebrity edition was revealed.
From 19 contestants, just a handful were left standing: Traitors and faithfuls facing off for the prize.
Before long, the competition tightened to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.
Ultimately, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the winner, in a surprising result that went viral and made him tearful.
"This has been destroying me, I'm so sorry," he exclaimed, admitting to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You did brilliantly," they consoled him. "It's all right."
Social media quickly erupted with the news. "The worst deceiver being the most effective player," wrote one user.
"There could not have been a better conclusion," stated another, while a third called it "the TV moment of the year."
His chosen charity, a cancer charity, will receive all the prize money, with the final pot amounting to eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
The comedian's evolution from giggle liability to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the season.
But his win still left the nation in shock, as noted by industry observers.
"The thought of him, among everyone, pulling off an expert performance in deceit felt just as probable as him maintaining a straight face through his comedy routines."
During follow-up conversations, fellow players explained the reasons nobody had ever really suspected him.
"He might have come down to breakfast in a green cloak and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," a player said.
"Most people didn't vote for him because how does one vote for a person so loveable?" questioned another celebrity.
Carr said he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the show.
"I'd like to participate once more... I doubt it would be successful again!"
The final episode was extended to over an hour on the network. There was an unusual opening than typical episodes, as every celebrity knew who would appear at the morning gathering.
Viewers heard some very uplifting, and atypical for the show music, as we recapped some moments from every remaining player's experience in the game.
As ever, the comedian gave us some of the most memorable lines.
"Let's face it, I started the competition as something of an anxious mess. I've betrayed some really good friends to save myself, I've eliminated national treasures openly. Apparently I'm more deceptive and traitor than I believed."
Meanwhile, a different player commented that being in the final was "way more stressful than competing with England", while someone else said he was "totally surprised" to have lasted this long.
Early on of the finale, several players appeared to be making a bid to become the fashion standout of the competition, replacing the previously eliminated style leader.
Carr emerged at the morning meal resembling a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, later switching into a bejewelled white suit.
However, he got out-jacketted by a fellow player's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.
Following this was the challenge, with the final players getting on board a locomotive called - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.
The challenge saw them destroying portraits of former contestants. Have sympathy for a player who managed to get hit on the head THREE times by the lid of a substantial container.
Soon after, the moment arrived for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors made a pact in advance, vowing to stick together. "We've progressed significantly, I won't betray him," stated a player, while their partner just giggled.
However, one did stick to their agreement. But, managing to stay under the radar for most of the game, their partner still got the most votes.
The last deceiver looked like to be experiencing significant distress to be the final deceiver remaining. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, a rudderless ship."
Online platforms and viewers were similarly upset.
"I did NOT want that player to be banished. An endearing deceiver," commented an observer.
"You will forever be remembered in the show's legacy," posted another user.
However, there remained little opportunity to dwell on their elimination. Before long, they were at the endgame - which was what we were really all here for.
The final four stood over the ceremonial fire. Meanwhile, the partnership broke down, precisely when it was most crucial, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their partner, who turned against them.
"This pains me to be stabbed in the back at the final moment in that manner," remarked the eliminated player. Later, we learned that when they message, the betrayed player refers to the other by a betrayer's name.
Finally, just three players remained in the game: the last participants.
A contestant, appearing quite pleased, voted to end the competition. So did a different player, and it all came down to the third, who did the same - which meant that the deceiver was the winner.
For observers, the moment where remaining contestants consoled the champion was "compelling television". "I predict it will be in the running for memorable moment at television honors," they commented.
Fortunately, the champion quickly regained composure from his bout of tears, and could finally appreciate the moment.
"What a rollercoaster. I was awful at lying, my expressions gave me away and now I stand the champion," he said.
And he even made light of that infamous murder - his best friend in an early episode - by reaching over the presenter in the final scene and making contact.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The last few weeks of celebrity gossiping, scheming and sometimes unexpected moments may feel like one big crazy jumbled dream. But it really did occur. And we will miss it.
