Six Arrested Following €12 Million Heist on Precious Metals Facility in France

A team of six suspects carrying assault rifles and handguns employed explosives to force entry into a gold treatment facility located in Lyon, slightly injuring five workers during what is being called the most recent prominent daytime heist to occur in France.

The daring raid occurred on Thursday late morning, with law enforcement authorities quickly arresting the individuals believed responsible and securing the stolen items estimated to be worth €12M (10.5 million pounds), according to officials.

Five employees of the precious metals facility were slightly hurt as a result of the detonation, and three of them were transported to hospital for examination, according to regional authorities. Twenty-eight workers were at the location when the robbers attacked.

The suspects, considered career criminals, were arrested shortly after the incident in the neighboring community of Vénissieux, France, authorities revealed.

A female accomplice involved in the raid was also apprehended, a police source indicated.

“Six people who used detonations in a raid against a precious metals company in Lyon, France were arrested at the scene,” the French interior minister stated online, commending law enforcement for their “firmness, rapid response and command”.

Assault rifles, handguns and explosives were likewise seized.

The robbery occurred as authorities on Thursday detained five further people, featuring a main perpetrator, in connection with the recent audacious raid on the Louvre museum.

Numerous detectives have been searching for four thieves who employed a truck featuring an elevating platform and cutting gear to breach a first-floor gallery at the renowned museum on the nineteenth of October, escaping with precious items estimated to be worth €88 million.

In a separate high-profile case, burglars recently forced their way into the Parisian museum of natural history, making off with gold samples estimated at exceeding $1M. A 24-year-old Chinese woman was arrested earlier this month in the city of Barcelona in regarding the theft, according to legal authorities.

This series of robberies has raised concerns in the country regarding inadequate security measures at museums and various establishments housing valuable items.
